About Music Industry Weekly

Music Industry Weekly covers the business of music: the deals, the rights, and the money. We publish for the people doing the work. Managers, independent labels, publishers, producers, sync agents, and artists who run their careers like a business.

Most music coverage tells you what happened. A catalog sold. A company merged. An artist signed. We are more interested in what actually changed hands, what it cost, and what it means for the next person negotiating a similar deal.

What we publish

Daily news. The stories moving the music business, published every morning.

Deals & Rights. Contracts, royalties, and deal mechanics explained in plain English by MIW Legal, our contracts desk. Its analysis is written and reviewed by a licensed attorney with more than twenty years in entertainment, media, and business law, admitted in Texas and Virginia. It explains how music agreements work. It is not legal advice, and reading it creates no attorney-client relationship.

Artist Spotlight. Our paid feature program. Every Spotlight is labeled Sponsored Advertorial at the top of the article, because it is advertising and you deserve to know that before you read it. Editorial coverage is not for sale, and buying a Spotlight does not influence anything else we publish. The details are on our Editorial and Advertising Policy page.

What we will not do

We will not tell you we are the biggest, the most trusted, or the number one anything. Those claims are cheap and unverifiable, and this publication is being rebuilt on the opposite principle. When we can prove a number, we will publish the number. Until then we would rather say nothing.

We will not run a paid placement without labeling it, and we will not let an advertiser shape editorial coverage.
