David Allan Coe’s final studio album, “A Million Reasons,” is scheduled for worldwide digital release on October 16 via F3 Entertainment/Symphonic. The 11-track collection was originally recorded in 2017 under Average Joes Entertainment, spearheaded by Colt Ford and produced by Noah Gordon and Lex Lipsitz, but went unreleased at the time. Former Coe co-manager Ken Madson says he acquired the master recordings in 2022 and worked to complete the project for commercial release.
A newly recorded version of Coe’s signature song “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” was premiered by Taste of Country and is set for release across DSPs on September 6, what would have been Coe’s 87th birthday. According to the announcement, the song and Coe’s “Take This Job and Shove It” both placed on SiriusXM Prime Country’s Top 100 Country Songs of All Time and Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Country Songs of All Time lists.
The album opens with an introduction from Ric Flair and includes the title track “A Million Reasons,” a Johnny Cash tribute called “Corner of Cash and Coe,” and two songs co-written by Kid Rock, “Single Father” and “Only God Knows Why.” It also features a southern-rock rendition of “Take This Job and Shove It,” the song Coe wrote that Johnny Paycheck took to No. 1 in 1978.
