Vocana, an independent-only music streaming platform, has introduced Sonic Profiler, a feature that asks new users to name three artists they like and uses those selections to recommend independent acts on its catalog. The named artists do not need to share genre or era, and do not need to be available on Vocana, according to the company.
The feature is presented during onboarding and can be revisited for updated recommendations. It joins Vocana’s existing discovery tools, including human curators and fan-to-fan recommendations, as the platform moves toward a public launch with distribution partners including CD Baby, FUGA, UnitedMasters, Downtown, Gamma and MNRK Music Group.
Heather Mundinger, Vocana’s head of marketing, said the company tested the feature at an in-person event and found users responded positively to the accuracy of the recommendations, according to the announcement. Vocana, which emphasizes user-centric payments and direct artist-fan connections, is currently in public beta.
