Weezer launched its Weezer: The Gathering North American tour on September 8 with a show at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, which the promoter says sold out. The 32-city arena run, promoted by Live Nation and featuring support from The Shins and Silversun Pickups, continues through October 24 with a closing date in Los Angeles.
The tour supports Weezer (The Gold Album), the band’s 20th studio release, which came out August 21 on Reprise/Warner Records, the band’s new label. The album includes the tracks “Shine Again,” “We Might As Well Be Strangers” featuring Wednesday, “C.E.O.” and “Hoops,” and has drawn positive notices from outlets including Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and the Associated Press, according to the announcement.
The outing follows Weezer’s Return to the Blue Planet tour marking the 30th anniversary of The Blue Album, which the band says also sold out, as well as the Hella Mega tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy. The band has sold more than 35 million records worldwide, according to the announcement.
