Michael Dorf Presents will hold the 22nd annual installment of its Music Of benefit concert series at Carnegie Hall on March 10, 2027, this year honoring the songbook of Tom Waits. Longtime Waits collaborator Greg Cohen, who played bass on albums including “Swordfishtrombones” and “Rain Dogs,” will serve as musical director, leading a house band that includes Smokey Hormel, Rob Burger, Jay Bellerose and Cyro Baptista. The performing lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Music Of series, which launched in 2004, has previously staged Carnegie Hall tributes to artists such as Billy Joel, Prince, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin. According to the announcement, the series has directed more than $2.5 million to music education nonprofits to date, and net proceeds from the Waits tribute will again benefit such programs.
Dorf is also introducing the Glen Hansard Award, a new annual $25,000 scholarship for a young artist nominated by the series’ beneficiary organizations, named for musician Glen Hansard, who has performed at eight of the tribute concerts.
