Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Ash Ravens will release his new album ‘Letters from an Alien’ on October 20 via Raven’s Nest Music, led by the single “Last Letter from an Alien.” The seven-song set was written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered almost entirely by Ravens at his home studio, with lyrics he says explore feeling like an outsider across the three continents where he has lived.

According to the announcement, Ravens tracked most of the album live in single takes using guitars, bass, keyboards, programmed drums and his own vocals, aiming to preserve the rawness of the performances. One track, “Save Me,” was recorded with engineer Dean Watson at Studio Buckingham, the only vocal captured outside his home setup. The cover photo was shot by Shamuna Mizan.

Ravens has previously released the albums ‘One Way Ticket,’ ‘Joyride Blues’ and ‘Side A,’ earning two Capital Music Award nominations and multiple City of Ottawa Arts Grants, and performed at RBC Ottawa Bluesfest in 2023, according to the announcement. He has also collaborated with artists including Bif Naked, cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne and Kristine St-Pierre.
