Lance Bass said he and his *NSYNC bandmates were paid a per diem of $35 a day even as the group sold out arenas and notched multiple number one albums. He said the band’s first real check, $10,000, did not arrive until years into their run of commercial success.
The comments renew longstanding questions about artist compensation structures from the late-1990s boy band era, when management and label deals often left acts with a small fraction of touring and recording revenue.
