Marco Luka, the Durham-native, LA-based singer-songwriter and former Weston Estate frontman, has released his debut solo album, f_unk, on Arista Records. The eight-track project draws on new wave, dark synth-pop and Prince-inspired funk influences, according to the announcement.
The album follows lead singles “Don’t Cry” and “Gotta Let You Go,” along with the focus track “Into the Blue,” which arrives with an accompanying video. Luka co-produced several tracks, including “Don’t Cry” with Nicci Gomez, and says the songs center on themes of release, impermanence and living in the moment.
Luka spent eight years as lead vocalist of lo-fi alt-pop band Weston Estate, during which the group toured and played venues including Brooklyn Steel and the Fonda, according to the announcement. He has continued to release solo material since his 2019 track “paradise,” which the label says has drawn more than 43 million streams, including last year’s INSOMNIA EP and a string of singles preceding f_unk.
