Joan Krygsman, a singer-songwriter based in Dundas, Ontario, has released a five-song EP titled “Bag of Fingers.” The collection mixes dark comedy and surreal storytelling with themes of connection and autonomy, according to the announcement, touching on subjects ranging from boundary-setting to the aftermath of a relationship.
Krygsman previously fronted the band Trout Lily, which played its final show at Hamilton’s Supercrawl in 2025 after eight years together. For the new EP, she says she shifted her process, building songs from solo guitar-and-vocal demos before bringing in additional musicians, resulting in a sound she describes as incorporating a stronger electronic component than her earlier acoustic work.
The EP was produced by Ashton Price, who also handled programming and guitar. Additional musicians include Mark Volkov on fiddle, Troy Dowding on trumpet, Paul Burnip on clarinet and Mark Lalama on accordion. Krygsman recorded vocals, guitar, mouth trumpet and kazoo on the project, which began recording in January 2026.
