Robert Lester Folsom’s 1976 Cult Album Gets 50th Anniversary Reissue With Beach House, Hannah Cohen Covers

0

Anthology Recordings has released a 50th anniversary edition of Robert Lester Folsom’s 1976 album Music and Dreams, featuring remastered audio, 10 previously unheard demos from Folsom’s original reel-to-reel recordings, and new covers by Beach House and Hannah Cohen.

Folsom self-recorded and released the album in 1976 out of Atlanta’s LeFevre Studios, pressing 1,000 LP copies along with 45s and eight-track tapes, but lacked the resources to promote it nationally. The record found a cult following after Anthology Recordings first reissued it in 2010.

Folsom is wrapping a 23-date U.S. tour this weekend that included a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, which the label says sold out. He is scheduled to play his first overseas dates next month in the U.K. and Europe, including an appearance at Pitchfork Festival London.

Iron Maiden Add Final North American Leg of Run For Your Lives Tour for Spring 2027

0

Iron Maiden will return to North America in spring 2027 for a third and final leg of their Run For Your Lives Tour, Live Nation announced. The 16-date run covers markets the band’s earlier legs did not reach, including the Pacific Northwest and Southeast, and will close with festival headline sets at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, and Boardwalk Rock in Ocean City, Maryland.

The dates follow the recently completed U.S. and Canadian leg of the tour, which the band’s camp says drew large, multi-generational crowds and included the group’s first headlining stadium shows in the U.S. According to the announcement, by the end of this final leg the Run For Your Lives Tour will have played 107 shows across 36 countries to more than 3 million fans as part of the band’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Bullet for My Valentine and The Raven Age will serve as support on the North American dates, marking an all-British bill that the band’s management says is the first of its kind for Maiden since 1983. Tickets for the Sonic Temple and Boardwalk Rock festival dates go on presale beginning Oct. 19, with a general on-sale set for Oct. 23; dates for the remaining shows and VIP packages are available through the band’s and Live Nation’s ticketing channels.

NTIA Urges UK Government to Strengthen Protections for Grassroots Music Venues and Nightlife Heritage

0

The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) has called on the UK government to do more to protect culturally significant nightlife venues, including nightclubs, grassroots music venues and LGBTQ+ spaces, after the government responded to a House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee report on built heritage protection.

The Committee’s inquiry, which drew on evidence from NTIA chief executive Michael Kill, had recommended new processes to identify and protect culturally and socially significant buildings alongside those valued for architectural reasons. It also proposed a “reuse first” approach and a dedicated scheme to return vacant historic buildings to residential use. According to the Committee, the government rejected prioritizing reuse over new construction and ruled out a specific heritage-to-housing scheme.

NTIA argues that protecting a venue’s exterior is not enough to preserve the music, performance traditions, community knowledge and collective memory tied to a space, and is calling for planning protections, accessible funding for independent operators, and mechanisms for communities to document and sustain intangible heritage. Kill said the government’s response fell short of the action needed and called for clear commitments, named responsibility and a delivery timetable, adding that new housing developments near existing venues should take responsibility for managing impacts such as sound insulation.

Bruce Cockburn Releases Covers Album ‘The Blood of Others’

0

Bruce Cockburn has released a new album, “The Blood of Others,” through Sunset Boulevard Records. The record consists entirely of songs written by other artists, tracing the musical influences Cockburn absorbed before he began writing his own material, from gospel and blues records he heard growing up in Ottawa to songs discovered through friends, radio and coffeehouse performances.

The tracklist spans material by Robert Wilkins, Herman Hupfeld, Jo Stafford, Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog, Mississippi John Hurt, Ian and Sylvia, and others, along with Cockburn’s take on “That’s Alright,” which he says draws more from Arthur Crudup’s original recording than from Elvis Presley’s version. The album’s title is borrowed from Simone de Beauvoir’s novel of the same name, which Cockburn says dealt with personal responsibility amid oppression, a theme he felt suited a collection of songs he did not write himself.

According to the announcement, the album has drawn praise from outlets including Folk Alley, Glide Magazine, Americana Highways and Maximum Volume Music. Cockburn, who has built a catalog over more than five decades, has said the idea for the project dates back to the 1980s and grew out of songs that had stayed with him since the 1960s.

0

Singer-songwriter Eric Hirshberg has released his new album “More Is Not The Answer,” a 10-track collection, alongside a single and video for “Machine Against The Rage.” The song and album focus on human connection amid technology, algorithms, politics and media that the artist says pull people apart, according to the announcement.

The album was previewed through several singles over the past year, including “For Real,” a collaboration with Aloe Blacc that led to Hirshberg’s national television performance debut on “Live with Kelly and Mark,” where host Kelly Ripa called the song “an anthem,” according to the announcement. Other tracks, including “We’re All In This Alone” and “The Grand Elsewhere,” address algorithmic influence and digital distraction, while the title track was written after Hirshberg and his family evacuated during the Los Angeles wildfires.

Hirshberg is marking the release with a show at The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles on October 17.
