It’s been almost six years given that Vampire Weekend released their 2013 album, Modern Vampires of the City, and the music group is finally releasing some songs this year.
Frontman Ezra Koenig took to Instagram Thursday (Jan. 17) to reveal the initials for the upcoming 18-track double album’s title, FOTB . “It’ s a lot of tracks but they all belong there. (If you disagree, you can always say it had been 6 songs too long & create a lil 12-song playlist version from it. ), ” he wrote within the lengthy caption. “At first, I needed to make two 23-song albums upon some human chromosome shit however 23& me started doing Spotify playlists and I don’ t know… felt we’ d been acquired. ”
This individual also said the band may release “ three 2-song falls every month until the record is out, ” starting next week.
“ Many of you have been hungry for info and we’ ve given you hardly any, ” he continued. “I don’ t like talking abt a project while in the middle of making this. I usually regret everything I state cuz it turns out to be wrong (so disregard anything I may have mentioned in the past 5 years. ) I think abt making a recording diary in order to tide over the people leaving intensive comments but… to me, the record IS the recording diary… man. ”
No formal release date has been revealed for FOTB , or a complete album title. See Koenig’s blog post below.
To the followers: I know that 5-6 many years is considered a long time between records. Individually, I think it’ s a sensible pace befitting a band that’ s already placed three cds in stores but everyone has their own feeling of time. (I swear the time among 3 & 4 felt smaller to me than 2 & several. I may be in the minority about this one. ) This particular album didn’ t really consider any longer to write/record than MVOTC. We just took more time in the front end to chill. I’ lmost all admit I may have stretched out the particular mixing/mastering process (aka THE END) a little bit cuz spending half your day with my family & half the morning at Ariel’ s is our ideal life-rhythm & it’ t painful to say goodbye to that tempo. Many of you have been starving for information and we’ ve given you very little. I don’ capital t like talking abt a project whilst in the middle of making it. I usually repent everything I say cuz as it happens to be wrong (so disregard everything I may have said in the past five years. ) I thought abt creating a recording diary to tide on the people leaving intense comments but… to me, the album IS the documenting diary… man. It’ s called “ FOTB” (well those are the initials – that’ s a VW tradition) plus it’ s 18 songs. Selected the name a few years ago. At some point in early stages, the album drifted from the Mitsubishi Macchiato aesthetic. It was an useful guiding principle tho. Working game titles are important too. It’ s a lot of songs but they almost all belong there. (If you differ, you can always say it was 6 tunes too long & make a lil 12-song playlist version of it. ) In the beginning, I wanted to make two 23-song cds on some human chromosome clips but then 23& me started performing Spotify playlists and I don’ big t know… felt we’ d already been scooped. Is it the double album? The vinyl is going to be double so… yes? It’ t about 59 minutes long. We are able to talk more abt that later on – if u care. In my opinion, it’ s just FOTB. Anyway, we’ re going to start releasing music next week. In fact that waiting, you should have the general routine: -There will be 3 2-song drops every month until the report is out. 1 . hh/2021 2 . s/bb 3. tl/uw. (plans can change that’ s the plan) Thanks to ur patience, Ezra
