Rumba flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook will release his new album, “past the breakwater,” on September 18 through Coach House Music, distributed by Believe. The 10-track record, which follows the previously released singles “forever” and “you were looking north,” leans further into jazz influences than his prior work, according to the announcement, and was recorded largely in a cabin on a remote island in Ontario’s Canadian Shield.
Cook says he aimed for a sparser, more spacious sound on the album, with some tracks featuring just Spanish guitar and double bass. He composed, arranged, produced, recorded and mixed the album himself, with mastering by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound, and is joined by longtime collaborators including drummer Marito Marques, violinist Will Lamoureux, bassist Ross MacIntyre and cellist Jill Sauerteig.
The album’s release coincides with the start of Cook’s Forever Live Tour, which opens with dates in Quebec before moving through the northeastern United States and Ontario in November, including a stop at Casino Rama in Orillia. The tour continues into the American Southwest and West Coast in early 2027, with additional dates planned in Florida, Georgia, Canada and Europe later in the year. According to the announcement, Cook’s catalogue has surpassed 1.1 billion combined streams and views across platforms.
