Nashville singer-songwriter Drew Ryder Smith has released “Textile Town,” a new single and music video featuring Steve Earle. The song, co-written with Jason Jones, was inspired by a drive through a former South Carolina mill town and draws on Smith’s family history of factory work, according to the announcement.
Earle shares vocal duties on the track, which Smith says he has admired since childhood. The accompanying video was filmed at the Boott Cotton Mills in Lowell, Massachusetts, combining narrative scenes with footage of the two artists recording together. The track was produced by Glenn A. Tabor III and recorded in Charlotte, New York and London with a group of session musicians including Gordon Mote and Tony Creasman.
“Textile Town” is the first single from Smith’s forthcoming album, expected later this fall. Smith has previously shared stages with Lady A, Lee Brice and Big & Rich, and has written songs recorded by Randy Houser and John Schneider, according to the announcement. He is scheduled to tour this fall with stops in Boston, New York, Asheville, Charlotte and Knoxville.
