Gothic folk singer-songwriter Kira McSpice will release her new album, “The House,” on October 23 via Danger Collective. It is the third installment of her four-part project “A Return in 4 Parts,” following this year’s earlier releases “Saturnism” and “The Desert.”

The album centers on a recreation of McSpice’s childhood home in Harlem, Georgia, which she says she conceived during a guided trance with a breathwork facilitator and hypnotherapist. According to the announcement, the record moves between gothic folk, alternative rock, ambient and chamber music, and features a choir of friends and collaborators. It was recorded at The Granite Church, a converted church and community space in Redding, Connecticut, with co-producers Sean Brennan and Tyler Skoglund.

McSpice has shared the lead single “Return,” accompanied by a music video directed by Brandon Brumm and shot on mini-DV tape. In press materials, McSpice describes the song as a reckoning with memories of her childhood home and her relationship with her father, while Brumm says the format choice was meant to evoke home movies and the aesthetic of early Kate Bush videos.
