Composer Daniele Luppi has released his new album, Wilma, out digitally worldwide via Verve/slowplay. A vinyl edition is set for November 13, with pre-orders now available. The album draws on material from forgotten Italian film scores of the 1970s, reworked with Luppi’s own arrangements and production.

Wilma features vocal contributions from Michael Kiwanuka and Orion Sun, including the closing track “You Could Be The Sun, I Could Be The Moon,” on which the two trade verses before harmonizing in the song’s final moments. Luppi said the track evolved from a solo Kiwanuka piece into a duet, with Orion Sun’s part reworked lyrically to reflect her own perspective, and that he intended the song as the emotional culmination of the album.

The label describes the record as blending analog-style orchestral production with contemporary instrumentation and effects. Early reviews cited in the announcement, including from SPIN and Consequence, praised the album’s reimagining of vintage Italian film music.
