MoBlack Records is set to release producer Mimmo Falcone’s reinterpretation of Djanka Diabaté’s “Mounkera” on October 16. The track rebuilds the original around Diabaté’s vocal, adding percussion, low-end groove and electronic textures associated with Falcone’s Afro House productions.
Falcone, who records as MoBlack, has spent much of his career developing Afro House’s crossover from African musical roots to international dance floors, a connection the label says was deepened by a decade he spent living in Ghana. According to the announcement, Falcone said he was drawn to the “timeless, raw and deeply emotional” quality of Diabaté’s original vocal and built a new musical setting around it rather than layering it over an existing production.
The release is being described by the label as a bridge between the original’s cultural roots and a contemporary club context, aimed at both intimate listening and dance floor play.
