Steven Page, co-founder of Barenaked Ladies, has released “Cheese Log,” the debut single from his upcoming holiday album Steven’s Greetings, due November 13 via Fresh Baked Goods. According to the announcement, the song grew out of an improvised joke during a soundcheck with longtime collaborators Craig Northey and Kevin Fox before developing into one of Page’s proudest recordings.
Steven’s Greetings comprises ten tracks mixing new originals, holiday standards and newly recorded versions of songs from Page’s catalog, including “Hanukkah Blessings” and “Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind,” both previously released with Barenaked Ladies. The album was recorded primarily with Northey on guitar and Fox on cello, and features appearances by Page’s three sons.
Page will support the release with a holiday tour running November 17 through December 22, with stops across the U.S. and Canada including New York, Toronto and Victoria, where he will perform with the Victoria Symphony. Several dates, including shows in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Natick, Massachusetts, are listed as sold out, according to the announcement.
