Nashville singer-songwriter Drew Ryder Smith has released his new album The Deep End, marking a return to performing after more than a decade spent primarily writing for other artists. Smith, whose songs have been recorded by Merle Haggard and Randy Houser, previously shared stages with Lady A, Don Williams and Lee Brice earlier in his career.

The album was produced by Glenn A. Tabor III and includes guest appearances from Steve Earle on the track “Textile Town,” inspired by a South Carolina textile community and Smith’s family history, and from bluegrass artist Rhonda Vincent on “Lie with Me.” Orchestral and choral parts for the song “Do It Again” were recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Smith has said the record incorporates personal audio, including recordings of his father preaching and old voicemails from relatives, some of whom have since died, woven between tracks. The Deep End is out now on digital streaming platforms, and Smith has tour dates scheduled through November, including stops in New York, Asheville, Charlotte and Knoxville.
