Black Film Space Manitoba has released “Cool Sweepings: The Album (Original TV Series Soundtrack),” a 12-track project tied to the Bell Fibe TV1 series of the same name, which the company describes as the world’s first curling-inspired album. The record spans hip hop, rap, reggae, R&B and EDM and features Winnipeg artist Lyberal on the lead single “Cool Sweepings Anthem.”
The soundtrack is notable for its cast crossover: all four lead actors in the series also perform on the album under separate artist names, including Joshua Calder (SleepyZay), Darryan Edwards (Young Prince), Nathan Zayac (Knathan) and Dillin Morgan (Dill The Giant). Series creator Chris Sharpe, who also produced the album alongside Peter McGimpsey, Serj Bhatti and Gracia Balingene, appears on the closing track under the name C Sharpe.
According to the announcement, the project took nearly 18 years to reach the screen before Bell Fibe TV1 picked it up. The show follows a Jamaican Canadian teenager in Winnipeg trying to save his family’s curling rink from foreclosure, and the soundtrack’s songs are each tied to specific moments in the series. The album is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube.
