AltSounds, an independent music site founded in 2004, has relaunched its AltSounds TV platform with what the company describes as 17,725 human-selected music videos. According to the announcement, every video is chosen by a person for the song and visuals rather than by view count or algorithmic recommendation, with software only determining the playback order based on genre proximity.
The relaunch follows the shutdown of several music-only television channels at the end of 2025, which founder Chris “MUG5” Maguire said left a gap for passive, curated video watching. The platform is free, requires no account or app, and runs in a browser, with a “Mothership” control layer allowing viewers to browse by year, director, label roster or genre blend.
AltSounds says it is also restoring a decade of its own music journalism from 2005 to 2015, including past interviews with artists such as Yoko Ono, Slash and James Blake, and plans to add an archive of label press releases dating back to 2008 to artist profile pages. The launch coincides with sister site Muvvoo, which the companies say has cataloged more than 140,000 music videos from over 48,000 artists dating back to 1965.
