Clarinettist Kornel Wolak has released “MESH,” an album featuring two newly composed concertos written for him by composers Norbert Palej and Charles T. Cozens. The album is out via Slammin Media, with worldwide distribution through Believe. Cozens also conducts the Burlington New Millennium Orchestra on the recording.
The album presents what the announcement describes as world premiere recordings of both works. Palej’s three-movement “Sursum” draws on minimalist structures, while Cozens’ “Les Petites Danses Démoniques” takes a more theatrical approach, including a cadenza in its opening movement written by Wolak himself.
Wolak, Palej and Cozens are longtime friends and collaborators, according to the announcement, with both composers saying they wrote their pieces specifically around Wolak’s playing and musical personality.
