Simon Dunmore, founder of Defected Records, has acquired a majority shareholding in House Culture, the independent platform that grew out of an Instagram page started by Stephen Hedge and Richard Clark in 2012. The deal brings Dunmore’s three decades of house music industry experience to a community that has expanded from social media into a podcast, curated playlists and live events, according to the announcement.

The House Culture Podcast, launched in 2019 and fronted by contributor Matt Rouse, has hosted guests including Fatboy Slim, Danny Tenaglia and David Morales. Dunmore’s involvement began after he appeared as a guest on the show, which led to ongoing conversations with the founders that culminated in the acquisition.

Under the new ownership structure, Dunmore joins Hedge and Clark along with contributors Rouse, Nick Gordon Brown and Steve Banks to run the business collaboratively. The company says plans include expanding its podcast and radio show into a wider editorial operation spanning original features, video, a newsletter and an archive, along with moves into live events and music releases aimed at establishing House Culture as a long-term resource for house music history and emerging artists.
