Low Budget Rock Star, a power pop band from Opaskwayak Cree Nation and The Pas, Manitoba, has released a new single, “Cotton Candy,” through Indigenous-owned New Sun Records. The song arrives with a music video featuring Melody McArthur.

The band is led by singer-songwriter Kennie Henderson, alongside lead guitarist Marshall Bignell, bassist Harley Whitehead and drummer Terry Constant. Formed in 2017, the group built its following through high-energy live shows and anthemic songwriting before signing with New Sun Records in 2023, joining a roster of Indigenous Canadian artists led by Crystal Shawanda.

According to the announcement, Henderson writes from personal experience growing up on the reservation, and the band aims to inspire Indigenous youth to reconnect with language and culture. The group is working on a full-length album produced by Dewayne Strobel, slated for release in 2027.
