Silverlake Conservatory of Music (SCM) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a benefit concert October 17 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Grohl, Vince Staples and Marc Maron, among others. Tickets and sponsorship or VIP packages are on sale now.
The nonprofit was founded in 2001 by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary and Keith “Tree” Barry, along with Peter Weiss, to fill gaps in music education across Los Angeles public schools. According to the organization, it now provides lessons to more than 900 students weekly and runs a scholarship program serving over 200 students who receive free lessons, instruments and ensemble classes.
SCM typically holds a private benefit dinner each year to help raise the roughly $1.5 million needed to sustain its programming, with past headliners including Patti Smith, Eddie Vedder, Neil Young, Bruno Mars and Tracy Chapman. For its 25th anniversary, the organization is replacing that dinner with a public birthday party-style concert at the Palladium.
