The Smashing Pumpkins will release a 30th anniversary reissue of their 1996 collection “The Aeroplane Flies High” via UMe on December 18. The set, which compiles expanded editions of the five singles from “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” along with B-sides, rarities and covers of the Cars, Blondie and the Cure, will be available as a standard five-LP set and a limited-edition color vinyl set. It marks the album’s first vinyl pressing since 2013.
The band has also reissued 1994’s “Pisces Iscariot” and 1998’s “Adore” on vinyl, alongside a new retail-exclusive greatest-hits set called “Absolute Zeros” covering the band’s Virgin Records era. According to the announcement, “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” has been newly certified 11x platinum by the RIAA, while “Siamese Dream” has reached 7x platinum.
The reissue campaign coincides with the band’s Rats in a Cage tour, which began September 30 in Columbus, Ohio, and runs through mid-November across North America. The shows feature two sets: one centered on “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” and another spanning the band’s catalog. The tour follows a string of recent band activity, including a 25th anniversary reissue of “Machina/The Machines of God” and a 2024 studio album, “Aghori Mhori Mei.”
