A court has granted Universal Music Group and Sony Music permission to depose a former Menlo Ventures executive over a deleted social media post in which he said he had “personally shifted most of” his music listening to AI platform Suno. The post is being examined as potential evidence in the majors’ ongoing copyright litigation against Suno.

Music Business Worldwide had previously flagged the post’s possible legal relevance back in March, raising it in an open letter to Suno CEO Mikey Shulman. The deposition will give the labels’ legal teams a chance to question the executive directly about the comments and his knowledge of the platform’s operations.
