Vancouver roots and blues quartet Honeybear will release its second album, “The Cure,” on September 4, following up its 2025 debut “I Was Wrong.” The band will mark the release with two shows: September 9 at Upstairs in Victoria with Emmett Jerome, and September 10 at the Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver.
The 11-track album was recorded at Light Machine and Afterlife Studios with Jeff Zipp and John Raham, with Zipp mixing and Doug Krebs mastering. It features an expanded lineup beyond core members Beaty and Brumelle, including additional keys, drums, pedal steel, horns and background vocals from a rotating cast of collaborators. The lead single, “Just Your Fool,” nods to Slim Harpo’s “Raining in My Heart” and has passed 100,000 streams, according to the announcement.
Formed in 2023, Honeybear says its debut album surpassed nine million streams and 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with placements on official Spotify editorial playlists and airplay on CBC, NPR and CKUA, per the band. The group has also picked up award nominations, including a Blues Music Award nomination from the Blues Foundation and a Blues Artist of the Year nod from the Western Canadian Music Awards, and has played festivals including Rifflandia, Vancouver Jazz Festival and Calgary Blues Fest, according to the release.
