Producer and educator Chuck Sutton has released Take 5: To Search for Sound, a sound-based exploration game built entirely within Ableton Live. The game has no visuals, relying instead on audio cues for navigation, with players moving through environments by listening to footsteps, proximity sounds and musical challenges rather than looking at a screen.
According to the announcement, the game is constructed using only stock Ableton Live devices, with no coding, Max for Live or extensions involved. Players explore five sonic environments using a keyboard or Bluetooth controller, encountering interactive elements such as a kalimba-style instrument that responds to randomized melodies in the player’s chosen key, and enemies located by stereo positioning. Completing challenges rewards players with new audio and MIDI material.
Sutton describes the project as an attempt to help producers push through the difficulty of finishing a track by turning that process into a series of discoveries. Take 5 launched November 5 and is available for $25 at takefive.quest, requiring Ableton Live 10 Suite or later to run.
