BMI hosted Sting at its Nashville office on Oct. 20 for a conversation moderated by BMI CEO Mike O’Neill, centered on his live album “The Night Watch: Live at the Rijksmuseum.” The 12-track recording was captured inside Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum, and the discussion, hosted by BMI’s Clay Bradley, touched on the connections Sting draws between songwriting and visual art, along with his interest in history and literature.
The event included a preview of Sting’s “Sounds Like Art” performance filmed in the museum’s Gallery of Honor for ARTE Concert. Sting closed the evening with stripped-down performances alongside longtime guitarist Dominic Miller, including “Message in a Bottle,” “The Last Ship,” “The Night the Pugilist Learned How to Dance,” “Fields of Gold” and “Every Breath You Take,” which BMI describes as the most performed song in its repertoire.
“The Night Watch: Live at the Rijksmuseum,” produced by Martin Kierszenbaum, is out now on CD, vinyl and streaming platforms. Sting is currently touring internationally with his Tony-nominated musical “The Last Ship.”
