Massachusetts rock band D-Tension & The Secrets have released their self-titled debut album, a nine-track collection led by the single “Hate To See You Go.” The record moves across rock, alt-rock, punk and power pop, according to the announcement, with the opening track drawing on the Irish punk tradition associated with Boston bands like Dropkick Murphys.

The project is led by D-Tension, who previously built a career as a hip-hop artist and producer, touring with DMX, Ja Rule and Biz Markie and producing for Slug of Atmosphere, Blackalicious and Mr. Lif. He took up guitar during the 2020 pandemic lockdown and began writing rock material, releasing ‘Secret Rock & Roll Project’ in 2021 with remote contributions from Craig Silverman of Agnostic Front, Frank Pino of the Andrew W.K. band, and drummer Brian Viglione. A second album, ‘Tales From The Pub,’ followed on Boston label Red on Red Records.

The new album marks the first time D-Tension has recorded in the studio together with his full band, The Secrets, formed in his hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts. “Hate To See You Go” was written after the pandemic death of a friend and fellow musician, and the band says the record draws on other personal losses as well. D-Tension was inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame in 2024 and has won two Boston Music Awards.
