French independent singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Anso Baya will release her debut album, “Watch the Stars,” on February 26, 2027 via her own label, Scarlight Records. The eight-song record centers on grief and loss, with the death of Baya’s father serving as its emotional anchor, according to the announcement.
The title track, out now, introduces the album’s themes and features orchestral arrangements composed by Baya herself alongside a pop-rock band. An accompanying music video, directed by Antoine Bal and produced by Marie Bordaz, depicts contrasting settings – a concrete building and a forest – built around a recurring bed motif meant to suggest presence and absence.
Baya wrote and composed the entire album and produced most of it, working with collaborators including producer-drummer Kevin Lika, producer-guitarist Franck Claudel, and session drummer Brian Griffin, who has worked with Lana Del Rey, Brandi Carlile and The Black Crowes. The record was mixed by Romain Dupont and mastered by Alex Gopher at Translab in Paris.
