The Empress of Spirit is back in Georgia — and she probably didn’t have to take a midnight train to get there.
Dressed in a dazzling white-colored outfit, Gladys Knight kicked off Super Bowl LIII by belting an elegant performance of the national anthem with Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Gwinnett this Sunday (Feb. 3). Pink, Luke Bryan, Lady Gaga and Idina Menzel have all sung the anthem before the game in recent years.
Knight, a seven-time Grammy winner behind Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers such as “Midnight Train to Georgia” (released as Gladys Knight & the Pips), has previously said inside a statement that she noticed the opportunity to sing “ The Star-Spangled Banner“ as a opportunity to “unite and represent our own country. ”
Knight said within an interview with NBC’ h Today earlier this week that will she considered joining a boycott of the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE over its treatment of Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who is currently your house the NFL. (Cardi M, for instance, has said the girl rejected a chance to perform at this year’s Super Bowl in solidarity with Kaepernick. )

In a video that will accompanied the announcement of her nationwide anthem performance, Knight talked about the racism she skilled coming up in her profession and her involvement within the Civil Rights Movement.
“ I hope this anthem will touch individuals in a different way, ” she mentioned. “ We’ve already been singing it forever. Yet this time I would hope they would feel it deeply that it would raise them to a higher place. That’s what I feel after I sing this song. ”
