Disney and YouTube Star, Gavin Magnus Is Next Biggest Thing Since Justin Bieber

0
It’s true what they say—in the music industry, in order to be seen you need to be heard. But in today’s digital era, it’s amazing to see what video platforms can do for an up and coming star. Now, you can be seen and heard all at once on one platform. With the rapidly growing nature and sophistication of technology and social media, the ways in which people are utilizing them to grow their image are full of endless potential. At 13 years old, Usher had Star Search; his protégé, Justin Bieber, at 12, had YouTube; and now, Gavin Magnus (12) also has YouTube. But, how are these up-and-coming child starts like Bieber and Magnus able to manage the pressures of money, fortune, and fame? At twelve (12) years old, Magnus has been crushin’ it with a YouTube fanbase of over 200K subscribers and a net worth of over $500,000. With the continued support from his family, the Disney star is able to sing, dance, and perform for his fans while his Mom, Theresa, is advising and managing his social media accounts, ensuring that he is in the safest of positions and ensuring he is engaging with all of his fans and followers. While outlets like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter all have certain age restrictions, most under the age of 13, Magnus’ mom, is able to work with her son and help determine what content is most appropriate and valuable to his community, abiding by the Terms of Service of these outlets. Magnus spoke with us about how he feels about these social media platforms at such a young age: I definitely have a love/hate relationship for it,” the YouTube star replied. “[The technology] has made it really hard at times…because with popularity, there most definitely comes hatred and negativity. You just have to understand you can’t always please everyone.” Magnus, who has dealt with the dark side of fame at an earlier age than most, recently participated in a national anti-cyberbullying social media movement called the #CYBERBYTE Challenge, where he recorded a video to his fans about being kind to one another and not bullying people. The movement, started by internet attorney, Andrew Rossow, has began to make waves throughout Hollywood over the past year as many stars have joined the movement in efforts to reach out to their fans about maintaining good digital hygiene. Magnus, no stranger to bullying even at such a young age wants his fans to know that these “haters are just people who want to be you—whether they want to live your life themselves, or are just miserable themselves.” He indicated that he eventually wants to travel around the country and speak to kids of all ages about the effects bullying causes. The young star’s recent Valentine’s Day single, Crushin’ featuring fellow co-star, colleague, and potential young love interest, Piper Rockelle, is already over 2.7 million views in over just a month. There’s no doubt this kid is headed in the same direction Justin Bieber did. And see how successful he has become?

New Drummer Joins The New Deal

0
The New Deal has a new drummer! They will be playing at a few music festivals this summer but they have been keeping their cards close to their chest about what they have been working on in the studio. Through an announcement on their social media, they revealed their new drummer along with a new track! Here is what Jamie said in his post:
Dan and I are proud to welcome drummer extraordinaire Davide Di Renzo into the fold! We’ve been shedding in the studio together for the past several months and are excited to get back out on the road. With Davide it’s a bit like ‘coming back home’ as he was the drummer that inspired our original direction back in 1998 when the three of us played our first impromptu gig together in Guelph, Ontario. Each of the band’s drummers has brought something unique to theNEWDEAL, and with Davide we’re reaching back to move forward with the organic-infused improvisation that has long-inspired a big part of theNEWDEAL sound. Here’s a first peek at what we’ve been up to in the studio with a jam entitled “Halo Drive” -JS

How To Design A Great Website For Yourself As Singer/Songwriter

0

How do you design a singer-songwriter website that conveys your authenticity as a music artist, and what you are all about?

Step 1:

Create a solid Homepage with information about who you are, your music genre and style, following up with your recent work; such as a recent single (choose your best song to go on your homepage), music videos, your EP, song covers, a clip of you performing LIVE, etc. For a good first impression, aesthetics is everything, so choose a main image for your Homepage that conveys the vibe you’re going for. Add a few other small images for color and feel. The template below is a great example. Make sure to keep in mind that simplicity is your best friend. You want your page looking as crisp and organized as possible. You want your viewers to make it around your site with ease, knowing exactly where they’re going. A confusing and disorganized website can be more frustrating than capturing. Rae Fawn singer songwriter website designArtist: Rae Fawn

Step 2:

Begin to build your About page. This part will be easy and fun for you! For this portion, you get to be expressive and organic in portraying who you are as an artist which will intrigue your website visitors. Start with an opening paragraph much like a bio. Collect some of your best images, using texts and colors so you have a nicely styled lay out of you as an artist. Write out your history, much like a portfolio. Don’t be afraid to brag about yourself! Talent scouts and producers will be reading your work, and your About page plays a huge factor in selling you as an artist to possibly work with or sign to their label. The About page gets the most clicks by far, so with this in mind, update your page every few weeks with your recent achievements, events you have gone to, new releases, etc.

Step 3:

A solid music page will make your mark on anyone who visits your site. Add your most recent work at the top of the page, and work your way down to your other albums, single, EPs, etc. Add a timeline of your music videos, and videos of you performing LIVE. Stream a playlist of your Youtube videos if you are publishing work on a regular basis. Make it all very organized and easy to navigate for your viewers.

Step 4:

Build a photo’s page and place all of your promotional pictures on this page. It’s important to have a full gallery of professional headshots and different styles of photo shoots for the viewer to see. Don’t forget to add in some action shots of you performing on-stage with or without your instrument. It’s important to convey your brand in this way.

See example template below:

Step 5:

Create an Events page! Place all of your upcoming shows, tours, features, charity events on this page. Add ticket info with links as well. And don’t forget to direct them to your contact page, in case someone wants to work with you or hire you for a show, concert or event.

Step 6:

Create a contact page. From the example below, it is a very simple form to make it easy for people to book you, message you, or to keep up with you via newsletter, social media, PR, etc.

Playboy Discussion With Nas & Travis Scott About The World Of Hip-Hop: Read

0
Playboy captured a raw and honest conversation between two renown rappers, Nas and Travis Scott. Since they are from two different eras, they discuss the generational divide in the world of hip-hop music. They touched on different aspects such as the evolution of rap and what the future holds for the industry after them, and political issues that go along with being a rapper. In the interview, Travis Scott acknowledged, “The past generation knocked down so many doors where, you know, they were spitting a lot of pain, man. They was dealing with a lot of police stuff. We’re still dealing with that now, but it wasn’t so free. Now we got more of a voice at the label.” Nas agreed with Travis’ statement, “Nowadays the pain has changed. We’re after different things. We broke past the barriers.” “We understand what we need to do and we’re in control of what we’re doing, and no one can stop it now. No one can tell us what to do, what we can’t do. Rap music can’t be stopped now.” Scott began to elaborate on political issues in the rap game, “I wouldn’t say I don’t feel compelled to speak on political issues; sometimes you just don’t want to speak too much on stuff you don’t know much about.” “It’s not like I’m not thinking about what’s going on in the world. I’m an expressive artist, but with media and shit, it gets misconstrued.” Nas added on to Scott’s statements, “One thing we can’t allow politics to do is take over our mind and make us fall into their game. What’s going on in the news could consume our lives. If that happens, life doesn’t go on.” As they finished up, Nas concluded, “The hood will always be a voice for the voiceless and the marginalized communities when it comes to breeding the next generation of MCs.” “They always going to yell out and say what’s going on. It’s going to get more fly and futuristic. But the message is always: We want food, shelter, health care and all the things we’re deprived of. We want no police brutality. We want all these things. That’s what hip-hop is talking about.” Click here to read their conversation in full.
