Hollywood Week Recap: American Idol

0
American Idol judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan make or break contestants during Hollywood Week. During this segment, the contestants performed solo in groups of 10 and then told whether or not they will have the green light for group round. They were so many great performances from Alejandro Aranda, Laci Kaye Booth, Margie Mays, Madison Vandenburg, Shawn Robinson, Colby Swift, Laine Hardy, Jade Flores, Myra Tran, Lloyd Harmon, Walker Burroughs, Nate Walker, Nick Townsend, Wade Cota, Dimitrius Graham, Juan Pablo, Evelyn Cormier, Clay Page, Shayy and Ashley Hess. These performances  blew the judges away, and they all advanced to the group round. There were several contestants who were sick during Hollywood Week, one of them being Eddie Island. The judges love him, but Eddie was concerned about his voice. He ended up performing “I’ll Follow You Into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. He managed to impress the judges enough to advance to the group round. While there were many great performances, there were a few that fell flat and unfortunately did not advance to the group round. Ashton Gill, Lauren Engle, Courtney Penry, Peach Martine, Landon Knowlton, Jorgie were all cut due to pitch problems, lack of confidence, and forgetting song lyrics. The last segment of the show was the group round made up of over 5 groups (some did not air.) The first group was Diversity who sang “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson. In this group was Tran, Flores, Mariah and Pablo, and everyone advanced except for Flores. Another group, The Diamond Dixies, made up of Booth, Hardy, Swift and Belle sang “Grenade” by Bruno Mars. Everyone advanced, but country singer Swift was cut. Victorious Secret was another group made up of Kasin Lester, Wade Cota and Grayson Little, and everyone moved forward except for Grayson. The last performance was called Unexpected Vibe who sang “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys. The only person that was eliminated from that group was William Oliver Jr. The rest of his group members; Shayy, Assata, Renay and Graham all advanced to the next round. There was another group called Ain’t Going Home that lost one of their members due to an illness. His name is Nate Walker, and the episode was open-ended as next episode will reveal whether or not the group will proceed to the next round. Stay tuned for next episode airing Monday night!

The full lineup for Outside Lands won’t be announced until March 26th, but Paul Simon will be leaving retirement to perform one last time to close the Festival out. Read announcement from Outside Lands below:
While no longer touring, Paul Simon has previously stated his commitment to perform the occasional concert in benefit of philanthropic organizations he supports, particularly those in the area of environmental protection and ecology. Outside Lands’ location in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, combined with the shared environmental initiatives of the Festival producers provided Paul Simon this perfect opportunity. To this end, Simon will be donating the entire net proceeds from his Outside Lands performance to local environmental non-profit organization(s) to be announced shortly.
Simon had this to say about his appearance:
“I’m looking forward with great anticipation to playing at Golden Gate Park this summer. This will be my first appearance there, and it’s an honor to join the long line of musicians who’ve given the park its sanctified musical heritage. I’m equally pleased to be playing in San Francisco with its well-deserved reputation for being in the forefront of environmental issues. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be of service to this vital cause.”

Disney and YouTube Star, Gavin Magnus Is Next Biggest Thing Since Justin Bieber

0
It’s true what they say—in the music industry, in order to be seen you need to be heard. But in today’s digital era, it’s amazing to see what video platforms can do for an up and coming star. Now, you can be seen and heard all at once on one platform. With the rapidly growing nature and sophistication of technology and social media, the ways in which people are utilizing them to grow their image are full of endless potential. At 13 years old, Usher had Star Search; his protégé, Justin Bieber, at 12, had YouTube; and now, Gavin Magnus (12) also has YouTube. But, how are these up-and-coming child starts like Bieber and Magnus able to manage the pressures of money, fortune, and fame? At twelve (12) years old, Magnus has been crushin’ it with a YouTube fanbase of over 200K subscribers and a net worth of over $500,000. With the continued support from his family, the Disney star is able to sing, dance, and perform for his fans while his Mom, Theresa, is advising and managing his social media accounts, ensuring that he is in the safest of positions and ensuring he is engaging with all of his fans and followers. While outlets like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter all have certain age restrictions, most under the age of 13, Magnus’ mom, is able to work with her son and help determine what content is most appropriate and valuable to his community, abiding by the Terms of Service of these outlets. Magnus spoke with us about how he feels about these social media platforms at such a young age: I definitely have a love/hate relationship for it,” the YouTube star replied. “[The technology] has made it really hard at times…because with popularity, there most definitely comes hatred and negativity. You just have to understand you can’t always please everyone.” Magnus, who has dealt with the dark side of fame at an earlier age than most, recently participated in a national anti-cyberbullying social media movement called the #CYBERBYTE Challenge, where he recorded a video to his fans about being kind to one another and not bullying people. The movement, started by internet attorney, Andrew Rossow, has began to make waves throughout Hollywood over the past year as many stars have joined the movement in efforts to reach out to their fans about maintaining good digital hygiene. Magnus, no stranger to bullying even at such a young age wants his fans to know that these “haters are just people who want to be you—whether they want to live your life themselves, or are just miserable themselves.” He indicated that he eventually wants to travel around the country and speak to kids of all ages about the effects bullying causes. The young star’s recent Valentine’s Day single, Crushin’ featuring fellow co-star, colleague, and potential young love interest, Piper Rockelle, is already over 2.7 million views in over just a month. There’s no doubt this kid is headed in the same direction Justin Bieber did. And see how successful he has become?

New Drummer Joins The New Deal

0
The New Deal has a new drummer! They will be playing at a few music festivals this summer but they have been keeping their cards close to their chest about what they have been working on in the studio. Through an announcement on their social media, they revealed their new drummer along with a new track! Here is what Jamie said in his post:
Dan and I are proud to welcome drummer extraordinaire Davide Di Renzo into the fold! We’ve been shedding in the studio together for the past several months and are excited to get back out on the road. With Davide it’s a bit like ‘coming back home’ as he was the drummer that inspired our original direction back in 1998 when the three of us played our first impromptu gig together in Guelph, Ontario. Each of the band’s drummers has brought something unique to theNEWDEAL, and with Davide we’re reaching back to move forward with the organic-infused improvisation that has long-inspired a big part of theNEWDEAL sound. Here’s a first peek at what we’ve been up to in the studio with a jam entitled “Halo Drive” -JS
