The Who will reissue their 1975 album “The Who By Numbers” on October 30 as a super deluxe edition marking the record’s 50th anniversary. The set is being released in multiple configurations, including a 5CD/1 Blu-ray box, a 3LP set, a 2CD edition and limited colored vinyl, and is available for pre-order now.
According to the announcement, the deluxe package includes 92 previously unreleased tracks and mixes, new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo mixes by Pete Townshend, 11 of Townshend’s original demos, tracking sessions from Ramport and Shepperton studios, and a 100-page hardback book with photos, memorabilia and new essays from Townshend and Who historian Andy Neill. The Blu-ray also features a previously unreleased full concert filmed at Metropolitan Stadium in Pontiac, Michigan, from December 6, 1975, along with what the announcement describes as the fullest version yet released of the band’s 1976 Vetch Field concert in Swansea, Wales.
“The Who By Numbers,” produced by Glyn Johns, was the band’s seventh studio album and reached No. 8 on the Billboard chart and No. 7 in the U.K., driven in part by the single “Squeeze Box.” The reissue arrives as the band’s last archival tour material featuring drummer Keith Moon, who died in 1978.
