Alec Baldwin’s impression of Donald Trump may have made an appearance at the top of Saturday Night Live‘s latest episode on Feb. 16, but “Trump Country” got a name-check in Gary Clark Jr.’s scorching performance on the show.
With “This Land,” Clark’s dark and contemplative political anthem made for a powerful closer for this week’s musical guest.
“At the time when I was writing this album, it was right around the election, so late 2016,” he said, “It makes sense for me to pay attention to what kind of world is going on around me so I can tell my [two young] children what’s happening in it so we can figure out how to maneuver through this thing and make it the best that we can.”
Prior to that, Clark put his mesmerizing falsetto to work with a hypnotic performance of the romantic “Pearl Cadillac” off This Land.
