Los Angeles-based indie rock artist brookelen has released her third EP, “dark side of the sun,” via Soliloquy Records. The project was engineered by Claire Morison, known for her work with Goon, with additional production and mixing from Pearce Gronek, who has worked with Exum, Hudson Freeman and Paper Lady.

According to the announcement, the EP explores themes of religious trauma, queerness, sexuality and independence through recurring imagery drawn from mythology and religious texts, including Icarus and Genesis. The songs were recorded live, which the artist’s team says preserves raw vocal and instrumental performances. The EP follows brookelen’s previous releases “time to go” and “going, going, gone.”

In support of the EP, brookelen will play a record release show on October 28 at Permanent Records Roadhouse in Los Angeles with Sluttony and Ranger Jane, followed by additional dates in Ridgewood, Queens on November 11 with Paper Lady, as well as shows in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Boston. The EP’s lead single “shadow” is accompanied by a music video that the artist describes as inspired by the Odyssey and set against the backdrop of Los Angeles.
