Finnish rap artist Kullervo has released a new single, “Woah,” which the artist says marks a shift from his more traditional rap sound toward modern hip-hop, with Finnish-language vocals woven into the track’s production. A music video for the single, directed by Väinö Parjanen, is set to premiere on Kullervo’s YouTube channel on September 5.
Kullervo’s work has drawn on the traditions of Ostrobothnia, a region in western Finland, according to the announcement, though “Woah” moves away from that regional influence toward a more contemporary style. The single was produced by Marko Yliollitervo, with lyrics by Kalle Lahtinen and mastering by Pablo Okas.
The release follows 11 previous singles and one EP from the artist, and according to the announcement, brings Kullervo closer to completing his debut album, which is currently in development.
