Rising Rap Artist D’NME: Achieving Success Through Artistic Freedom and Creative Control

For rising rapper D’NME, artistic freedom and creative control mark the authenticity of a music artist. These also help musicians stand out and showcase their real talents, whether through a bold and daring form of lyricism or a unique style of song delivery. Without these two, artists would have to fit into the mainstream arena, where expressing their musical niche would be close to impossible. 

Roderick Anson, more popularly known as rap artist D’NME, may not fit the mold, but he has been making significant noise in the rap industry. As a completely independent Canadian rapper, he has capitalized on his complete artistic freedom and control over his music. He has taken on some daring moves as he creates music featuring raw lyrical content. He also has experimented with his unique rapping style to give the listeners a different feel when they hear his songs.  All these have landed him to where he is today.

The up-and-coming musician entered the Toronto rap industry in the late 2000s with his first mixtape, “The Death of Me.” Several more mixtapes followed, including “Guns & Roses,” which was hosted by the late DJ Whiteowl in 2012 and the mixtape “I Smell Blood In The Water” hosted by  Southern Smoke DJ Smallz. He has also recorded a freestyle for the legendary hip-hop star Sway Calloway, which was aired in Sway’s popular show Sway In The Morning.

Recently, he dropped his single “Untouchable,” which has been streamed over 150,000 on Spotify. He takes pride in this single as this has been one of the most authentic songs he has ever created. Here, he exhibited complete control and freedom in creating the music. For this track, he went all in with the rawness of the lyrical content. And it garnered much spotlight on different platforms. 

For Spotify alone, the rapper has over 50,000 monthly listeners. Last 2019, he had over 250,000 listeners from 79 countries, and overall, he had more than 400,000 streams. His YouTube channel is also growing with 10,000 subscribers. Several of his videos have reached millions of views. The most viewed video is “The Stars,” reaching over 4,000,000 views, followed by “Can’t Nobody Do It My Way” with 2,000,000 views.

Today, the talented hip-hop artist continues to make music with the hopes of inspiring more people to chase their dreams without having to change themselves. Authenticity makes one stand out from the rest of the competition, and this is what has brought D’NME in the limelight in and outside Canada’s rap scene. Music is a constant in everyday living. It is everywhere; it is the alarm tone on the phone, the beeping of the microwave oven, the background noise on the elevator, and it is in TV commercials. Simply put, it is everywhere, but while it is just a part of day-to-day living for most, it is an ever-present entity for those who make a career of it and aspire to be known in the music industry.

Up-and-coming rap artist Caron AKA Ronnie was born Timothy Caron Jordan Kirksey Lanier. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and raised in the 978 Area of Lawrence and Lowell, he grew up in a household full of music. With an exceptionally skilled musician as his father, he and his nine other siblings were constantly exposed to music since infancy. His father was also the one to teach him his musical skills of singing and playing the keyboard. 

He discovered the vast opportunities for self-expression with the hip-hop genre of music when he was 10 years of age. Inspired by artists he looked up to, he started practicing right after. The foundations of Caron’s remarkable musical style then started to be built as early as that age. Initially, he delved into the world of music for the fun of it, but he later realized that he could aim higher and reach greater heights through his craft, and he began seriously writing and making music in 2019 with the goal of achieving stardom.

There began his quest for more exposure. Already with streams reaching the thousands on his Spotify artist page, it is impressive considering that his earliest tracks were released in 2020. His most popular songs are “Bounce” and “Touchdown,” with thousands of streams each.

On the 24th of February this year, he released his first Ep on Spotify with the title  Change composed of four title tracks.  The first track is “I Got Heart (Intro)” and has been produced as a music video by 1iVisuals on Youtube. 

With his existing tracks well-received by his fans, many are expecting that he will soon produce more quality content in the future. That may not come for quite some time yet, considering that his latest single was released only in May 2020. Entitled One Life, it features a thumbnail saying, “No one sees what you do, even when they do,” referring to the injustices in today’s society.

Caron hopes that his music will touch the hearts and minds of all races, considering that he writes his songs with the intent of inclusivity in mind. He is not competitive by nature and is not interested in competing with his co-artists. Instead of competition, he prefers that each artist would view another as motivation to do better. Aside from wanting to inspire his co-artists, he wants to inspire his fans as well, with the message, “Giving up isn’t an option”.

Family and friends have expressed their admiration of his strong work ethic and unpredictable creativity. They all have high hopes on Caron and expect that in due time, his hard work and vision will flourish.

Blonde Sherese has just recently debuted, dropping her single “Why I Do (featuring June B)” last July 3, 2020. The 51-year-old African American singer-songwriter has been writing since she was nine years old. Her debut song brings a fresh new sound to the table and talks about how hard the artist has worked before finally being able to release her single. Camellia Sherese Wood, or Blonde Sherese, was born in the state of Illinois. She grew up in a variety of income level households, from the farms of Michigan to the streets and churches of Ohio and Illinois. As a child, Sherese lived in multiple foster homes with her parents, separately, and relatives.  She got married at 19 and, after a long struggle with herself, tried to end her life at 29 years old. Within a year of that, at the age of 30, Blonde Sherese ended her marriage. Alone with her four children, Sherese felt conflicted and had to make what she describes as the hardest choice in her life. She allowed her children to live with their father in Pennsylvania.  In a time of hurt and confusion, Sherese found solace in the church. Having been introduced to the bible and the institution at the tender age of five, Sherese was able to connect with the church authorities. At 45, she serviced the church in the offices of lay minister, minister of praise or liturgical dance, assistant superintendent of the Sunday school department, certified community service chaplain, and women’s ministry leader. She also worked in community outreach, as choir director, and in various committees and groups. During that period in her life, Sherese was part of the working class homeless despite holding jobs as Medical Assistant, Research Project Manager, Regional Billing Specialist, Chiropractic Assistant, and Clinical Research Coordinator. Hard at work trying to keep her finances afloat and sharpening her writing craft, Sherese was taken unaware when, at forty-seven, she was diagnosed with Stage 3A Breast Cancer. It was her battle with cancer that changed her life. “Breast cancer reminded me, I have gifts and dreams that I’ve yet to pursue,” Sherese reveals. Having gone through more than her fair share of pitfalls, hurts, disappointments, and struggles, Sherese has learned that a positive and persistent attitude in confronting issues and overcoming hurdles is what results in an abundant life.  Aside from working on her music, Sherese spends her time performing stand up comedy. She is also proficient in several musical instruments, including the flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, and the piano. Now at fifty-one, Sherese walks on the footprints of her creator. In 2019, she founded The Dimple Foundation. The non-profit organization provides services and products for people actively going through chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. Through her music, she hopes to inspire people to follow their dreams and tell them that no matter what anyone says, they are enough and worthy. “I want them to be inspired by my story and walk away feeling if she can do, say and feel; I can too!” she remarks.  Sherese’s debut single, “Why I Do,” which features the talent of June B, is available for listening on YouTube. The rapper was born as Travis MacAuthur Sailor to a musically-inclined family in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Traviee grew up with music. It was one of the things that remained constant in their home. His mother was Martha Sailor, who, at an early age, discovered her talent and passion for music. She wrote songs that carried important messages. Traviee’s father, on the other hand, was Craig Sailor, another passionate musician. He was the bass guitar player for the New Frontier Gospel Band in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2004. Indeed, musical talents ran in their family. Traviee was blessed to have such parents who would expose him to the joy of being used by God through music. Corey Parks Delivers Solid Rap Music that Helps Change Lives for the Better

After his experience with drugs, gangs, and violence, Corey Parks is on a mission to improve his life and the life of others. He hopes to achieve this with the power of rap music.

Parks was born in New York City. He attended Park West High School in Manhattan. At a very young age, he already experienced difficulties with keeping his act clean. Drug dealing, gangs, and violence soon became a way of life for him. He began committing crimes at the age of 12 and ended up in prison at the age of 16.

In the 15 years that Corey spent as an inmate, he also saw over 15 prisons. Dealing with all the uncertainty was especially difficult for him during this period in his life. Until now, he would still break down when he shares that, “Prison was a major challenge.” However, it was also in these difficult circumstances where he had the epiphany to make necessary changes in his life for the better.

After being released from prison, Parks started Success Is a Journey, Inc. This charity organization focuses on helping past inmates adjust to living life in the outside world once again. Parks knows firsthand what a struggle it can be for people to re-enter and navigate civilian life. He hopes to serve as a guide for past inmates through this challenging transition.

The efforts of this organization include conducting speaking engagements in schools on topics like violence, education, and decision-making. It has also provided avenues to discuss issues on overcoming adversities, substance abuse in urban communities, and personal growth and development.

Among the many lessons that he learned in prison, Parks realized the importance of believing in oneself in order to be successful. Building dreams is a skill that he has learned and taught others. He also learned the importance of finding out what he is good at. This was how he realized that writing and making music was the path that he should take to effect positive change.

Corey’s songwriting reflects the life he once lived in contrast to the life he is now living. Because of the wide range of the content of his songs, people of all ages from all walks of life can relate. This includes the local drug dealer, gang member, and retired thug. Reaching out to these individuals, his music is inclusive and is what the rap scene has been missing.

Most recently, Corey started the New York City Rap Star Mixtape project. DJ Immortal of Outlaw Radio hosts the mixtape. This project continues on Parks’ commitment to deliver quality content through music and creative talent. The content is based on reality mixed with unique storylines. This separates them from the competition and allows them to deliver the best product. It intends to give viewers a better perspective of the hard life that some people live in their respective communities.

On the day before the show, the Band is preparing for the release of its latest LP, The Third Gleam. With supporters socially distanced in their cars, the band will play live on the backstretch of the racing surface with the stage projected on the speedway’s 16,000 square foot tv screen, one of the biggest screens in the world.

Also, better known as the SpittaGang, the two started making good music together in August 2011. Their obvious love for music started to translate into a deep love for one another as they started to get to know each other better.
